Hallmark Health System has opened the Hallmark Health Cardiac & Endovascular Center
(CEC) at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, the first center of its kind in the region. The CEC, a state-ofthe-
art, comprehensive center offering procedures and services in support of heart and circulatory
wellness, offers patients a multidisciplinary approach to diagnose and treat cardiac and vascular
disease under the direction and involvement of practicing cardiologists, interventional cardiologists,
interventional radiologists, and vascular surgeons from Lawrence Memorial Hospital (LMH) and
Melrose-Wakefield Hospital.
At the CEC, the Angioplasty Program specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of arterial
blockages through angioplasty and drug-eluting coronary stents. The team of interventional
radiologists and vascular surgeons work side-by-side in utilizing sophisticated minimally invasive
equipment for vascular procedures, procedures that were previously only available at major academic
medical centers.
Also at the CEC, the Interventional Cardiology Group is comprised of physicians affiliated with
leading Boston academic medical centers, including Massachusetts General Hospital. The CEC also
houses a Rapid Response Cardiac Emergency Care Team experienced in the rapid diagnosis and
treatment of heart attacks, vascular conditions and stroke. Patients also benefit from the collaborative
Patient Education Program and Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, which utilize the Center’s
cardiologists, registered nurses, exercise physiologists, dieticians, yoga/meditation instructor, and
physical therapists, to provide patients with education and support toward a full recovery.
